My name is Jennifer (Jobe) Gavin and I am running for a seat on the Laraway District 70c School Board. I am a former Laraway Lancer Class of 95'. While I attended Laraway I was involved in numerous activities such as, band, choir, basketball, volleyball, and served as President of Student Council my eighth grade year.  I attended Joliet Township West Campus and graduated in 1999. I am a mother of two boys that currently attend Laraway, who also participate in school activities, such as basketball, volleyball, track and field, and Student Council. I am married to my high school sweetheart,  Corey Gavin for 13 years this past March.

In September 2001, we moved to Seattle, WA for ten years to raise our boys and experience the Great NW. Due to my early foundation of being able to participate in activities at Laraway, it helped feed my desire to serve my community through acts of work which continued in Seattle, WA. While living in Seattle, Washington, I participated in PTA and volunteered as a parent volunteer at our son's schools. In addition, I served as vice-chairperson on the City of Seattle  (ECEAP) Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program Policy Council. ECEAP is a free early childhood program that provides children with an exciting pre-school learning environment and families with educationally-based home visits. In my capacity as vice-chairperson, my duties included reviewing, implementing, and assessing policies at ECEAP childcare sites and with our legislators. I regularly visit with our city mayor,  senators and state representatives to lobby for funding for the early learning program and testify at the state capital on the impact of the importance of early learning for children. I am a advocate for early learning and children being active in the community and sporting activities. I have seen and experience the impact that early learning has had on my own children and the jump start that it provides. In 2008,  I created  We've Got Spirit Too!, a company that raises money for children's teams and organizations  by selling spirit accessories, such as pom-poms, seat cushions, spirit towels at children's sporting events. This was another avenue for me to give back to my community by generating funding for children activities. I want to bring my passion for promoting and supporting children in a positive way by being of service on the Laraway District 70c School Board.

I am asking for your vote on April 9, 2013 for Jennifer (Jobe) Gavin for Laraway District 70c School Board Position. I look forward to the opportunity to serve in my community by keeping our children in the fore front of our minds when making decisions that may have a lasting effect on our youth future.
